Instructions:
  1. Preheat the bowl with water. When it boils, add dry beans into it. Cook it for 2 minutes.
  2. Transfer the bowl with beans from the oven. Cover it with the lid and leave for an hour.
  3. Traditionally for cooking this dish you need to use ham bone. However, you can use the leftovers of the ham. It will still be very tasty! Add shredded ham into the pan with beans.
  4. Chop onion, cut celery into thin slices. Add veggies to the pan together with bay leaf and black pepper. Bring everything to boil.
  5. Now it`s time to reduce heat. Simmer everything for 1-2 hours. Your soup shouldn`t be too thick. If It is, add more water.
  6. Finally add salt and tomato sauce. Cook everything for additional 15 minutes.
  7. Remove bay leaf and serve soup in the bowls.

If you want to make your dish thicker and more flavorful, add fresh sliced tomatoes or canned tomatoes. And if you prefer hot dishes, add chopped jalapeno pepper or chili pepper.
