Classical American Pecan Pie. An Old-Fashioned Dessert with Nuts and Sugar Syrup

  1. Sift the flour through a sieve. Mix it with salt in a blender.
  2. Cut cold butter into cubes and add them to the blender as well. Blend it for 12-15 minutes. The dough should resemble simple bread crumbs.
  3. Add 1 tablespoon of vodka or water into the bowl.
  4. Take the dough out of the blender and continue to knead the dough by hand. Divide the dough into 2 parts, forming 2 dough balls. Cover each dough ball with plastic wrap. Leave them in the fridge for anything between 30 to 180 minutes. For baking the pie, we will use only one dough ball. If you like the taste of the desert, you can cook one more portion next time.
  5. Flatten the dough ball to a round shape, raising the edges, greasing it with vegetable oil. Leave the dough in the baking dish to rest the fridge for 30-35 minutes.
  6. Preheat the oven to 392 F. Take the baking dish out of the fridge. Bake it in the oven for 7-8 minutes. Leave it to cool down for 45 minutes.
  7. For the filling, mix sugar with syrup, butter and bourbon in a big pan on a low heat, stirring constantly.
  8. Take the pan off the stove. Leave the sweet liquid to cool down. Whip the eggs in a bowl. Mix these two liquids in a pan. Add vanilla and salt. Mix everything carefully, using a silicone spatula.
  9. Fill the crunchy dough with the syrup and nuts, while still in the baking tray. Put the baking tray into the oven again and continue baking this dessert for 50-55 minutes.

When the pie is ready, leave it to cool down for an hour. Serve this pie with fresh vanilla ice-cream. Bon Appetit!
